These collages reflect a meditative, embodied experience of the Fire Element! Created by student-practitioners in the ‘21-22 In Our Element Intensive.
“Kamuy huchi, the goddess of Ainu (The Ainu are the indigenous people of the lands surrounding the Sea of Okhotsk, including Hokkaido Island)in center, Pele, the Hawaiian goddess is the right, I feel rooted strong fiery womxn energy in Fire element..” - Miyuki
“I was inspired to create this fire collage with joy and heat in mind. Embracing the color red, embracing the symbol of the heart, embracing warmth, and embracing love!” - Frankie
“My intention was to create something that reflected the playfulness, creativity and sensuality of summer. When putting together this Fire collage I was thinking about how I feel in summer amongst the energy of flowers blooming—the color combinations, shapes and fragrances that seem otherworldly, miraculous and can be transporting. I was drawn to the gemstone rings because they reminded me of flowers but also because they are formed by heat. The fireplace design, which seems a nod to the Fire Spirit, reminded me how fire should be honored for it’s life-sustaining and transformative abilities. It struck me as both humorous and reverent. The female figures on the lava rock formation called to me because of their playful clothing and seem like new life emerging up from the furnace of the earth. While the jellyfish lives in the element of water, its mysterious yin qualities of beauty and hidden danger called to me. Like fire it is mesmerizing to look at but getting too close will burn or sting you—or in the case of Medusa will petrify you. (Medusa is also the name given to this type of jellyfish). I liked that the image felt very cool against the other sunny, warm images—a reference to the importance of the yin that exists in the dominant yang Fire element.” - Amy
